Anointing
Anointing is a Sacrament in which Christians pray to the Lord to grant the gift of the Holy Spirit to the newly baptized so that he can clearly see the needs and joys of his loved ones with new, pure eyes of the heart, so that his soul will be fragrant like the holy Chrism.
This Sacrament is also performed to accept into the Christian community those of its members who have renounced Christ.
The Sacrament of Anointing must be distinguished from other services when anointing occurs in the Church:
from the Sacrament of Unction, when priests anoint the sick with holy oil;
from the anointing with oil during the All-Night Vigil (evening service).
